Our Story
At the 2022 Canadian Archaeological Association Conference an historic session on the Cultural Resource Management industry was held. CRM professionals from across the country attended to discuss the growing challenges of the CRM industry in Canada, and the demand for representation and advocacy on behalf of professional archaeologists. From this meeting a call to action was identified, and a small group of committed organisers began meeting regularly with the goal of creating an organisation whose mandate would reflect the concerns and needs of consulting archaeologists across the country. After two years of work, on March 11, 2025 the CCRA formally filed its incorporation documents, and on March 15, 2025 the CCRA invited CRM professionals to attend a first annual meeting to discuss critical issues, share innovative solutions, and collaborate on shaping a unified vision for archaeology and heritage preservation across Canada. Following the lessons learned from this meeting, the CCRA is looking towards collaborating with CRM professionals, Indigenous rights holders, businesses, and government stakeholders across Canada to address key industry challenges, support workforce development, and enhance public awareness of Canada’s rich cultural heritage. Join us as we build a strong, united voice for the future of archaeology and cultural resource management in Canada.
